Mission

Using live theatre as a catalyst for change; the primary goal of The Eklektix Theatre Company is to produce quality theatre by the people and for the people. To achieve this, our company allots performance and educational opportunities to college students and Houston area musical theatre artists.

Company Overview
History

In 2001, Eklektix Theatre Company began in an Off-Off-Broadway Theatre at the Variety Café on West 48th Street in New York City. The company’s vision was the brainchild of Artistic Director Bryan-Keyth Wilson. While battling the daily grind of the NYC audition scene, Wilson dreamed of a community of artists that depicted the diversity of our world while telling stories that were innovative and visceral.

The Eklektix Theatre Company produced Off-Off-Broadway Shows including the campy, gay play "Pamlet: The Prince of The East Village" and "The Subway Series Part 1 & 2." With 9/11’s impact on the NYC art scene, Wilson relocated his creative vision to Houston, Texas and began plans to revive the Eklektix Theatre Company.

In the summer of 2012, Bryan-Keyth Wilson selected Duncan Sheik’s controversial rock musical “Spring Awakening,” rich with authentic emotion and the juxtaposition of struggles that span centuries and generations, to inaugurate this revival of the Ekelektix Theatre Company. The production received critical acclaim and performed to sold-out audiences throughout its run. It was this production that reinforced the vision and goal of the company.

Performance Concept

In our continued effort to utilize theatre as a platform to inspire social change, the Eklektix Theatre Company produces pieces that provoke thought and promulgate human issues. We aim to push the boundaries of conventional theatre. We approach each piece of work with an open mind and a truthful, creative spirit. We firmly believe we have achieved our mission if the theatregoer leaves a changed person. Our core fundamentals are based on Tina Landau and Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints & Composition, which teaches that the artist’s physical attention and connection to a performance allows the exchange of energy with its patrons.
